On Heaven
By Mark Bach
Thoughts of heaven may bring to mind the kingdom of God. After all, is that not what heaven is? Is not heaven the kingdom of God? Is not the pursuit of heaven the quest to enter the kingdom of God?
If that is true, where is heaven? Where is the kingdom of God? Jesus himself gave us the answer. In Luke 17:21, Jesus plainly states “For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” Jesus tells us where to look for heaven, the kingdom of God. We must look inward, within ourselves – that is where heaven is! Heaven lies right in front of our eyes. We experience heaven every day. We may see it so often that we lose realization of heaven, heaven’s presence in us or our presence in heaven. With the aid of prayer, we may be able to achieve a state of quiet, a state where we shut off all influence of the world, all ambient noise. In that state, we may be able to look inside ourselves. If we look carefully, we may find heaven inside us! Then, we smile recognizing the kingdom of God within us.
