Sunday Song
By Pat Dime on behalf of her husband Rick
The six days that come before are preparation
for the seventh.
After five days of toil the weekend brings
serenity and penance.
The seventh day of reflection anoints the inner you
to accept a sacred renewal.
I carry a heavy soul wherever I go; the world is the temple
a roof and walls are for show.
Sitting on a park bench watching ripples on the lake;
praying that I give more than I take.
The times when confusion tosses us about; we need someone
unbroken to remove our self doubt.
While some prefer to avoid the truth and hide
I find that it is better to search deep inside.
Fundamental strength and answers are easier to find
under the glory of an open sky.
Here I sit better than yesterday, recharging for tomorrow,
learning how to give a piece of myself away.
Sitting in the church that appeals the most to me
silence is the joyous noise supremely suited for me.
A hymn is gently blowing through the waving trees
conducted by the puffs of a soft summer breeze.
On the playground the young children are at play; too
innocent to be conflicted by what the wise men say.
The breeze has subsided; rippled water turns to glass,
reminding me that wisdom and belief can clash
I don’t cherish pious symbols to boast my faith, my heart
is on my sleeve my creed is worn into my face
I came here looking for nothing and got my fill and more
just a pensive stranger meditating on the shore.
I am thankful for all that I am granted and please don’t find me rude
that my way of giving thanks is clearest in quiet solitude.
Oh sweet blindness I found what’s right for me.
Oh sweet blindness I found what’s right for me.
